Candidate for NEA Director: Katrina Cowan

Voting will take place January 5th through January 20th.

My name is Katrina Cowan, and I am running for NEA Director. For the past 10 years, I've proudly served in the Colonial School District seven years as a paraprofessional and the last three as a school counselor. Having worked in both roles, I understand the dedication, challenges, and value of ESPs and teachers alike. This dual perspective fuels my passion to unite and advocate for every educator, ensuring all voices are heard, valued, and respected.

Currently, l serve on the Delaware State Education Association (DSEA) Executive Board and as the teacher representative in my building. I also lead School Climate efforts, promoting strong relationships and a positive culture among staff and students. As Tuition Chair for the Colonial Education Association, I've supported equitable access to professional growth. On both the paraprofessional and teacher Negotiations Teams, I successfully fought for counselors to receive credit for writing 504 and counseling plans, a long-overdue victory for fairness and recognition.

As a DSEA Wellness Facilitator, I advocate for educator mental health because well-being is essential for both staff and students. My commitment extends statewide and nationally, I've helped advance Senate Bills 81 and 156, represented Delaware at five NEA Representative Assemblies, and completed both the Leaders for Just Schools (DC) and Equity Practitioner Program cohorts.

At a time when the rights of our students and educators are being challenged, we need courageous, inclusive leadership that amplifies every voice. I bring experience, balance, and bold energy to continue the fight for equity, advocacy, and meaningful change.

Vote Katrina Cowan for NEA Director- A Fresh Voice. A Fearless Advocate. A Bold Champion for Change.
