Tameka Mays for President
Steve Fackenthal for Vice President
Listening to Educators. Organizing for Impact. Leading the Change
I am honored to run for President of DSEA, my name is Tameka Mays, and I am your current DSEA VP. For more than 22 years, I have been an active member. My advocacy for educators, students, and public education has grown across every level of our association. Every step has strengthened my belief in the power we hold when we stand together.
Nationally, I have been involved in developing and empowering leaders. I served as a member of the NEA Local Presidents’ Training Cadre, graduated from NEA’s Leaders for Tomorrow Program, and NEA NOFA Fellowship. I contributed to the NEA Micro-credentials Curriculum for ESPs and served as a micro-credential assessor. I’ve also had the privilege of presenting at national conferences to name a few.
Statewide, I chaired DSEA’s ESP Task Force, served as a DSEA Member Organizer, 2019 ESP of the Year, and your DSEA Vice President. These roles have allowed me to listen deeply, organize intentionally, and advocate fiercely.
Locally, I worked my way through the union ranks up to Local President, serving in multiple roles at the school, district, and community. I run a nonprofit that supports families experiencing homelessness, but through all my roles, one title means the most to me is DSEA Union Member.
As your next DSEA President, your voice will guide the direction of this Association. I will LISTEN to your concerns, ORGANIZE around your issues, and together we will LEAD the change our schools and profession. Whether through legislation or organizing, we will continue to show the strength and power of DSEA. Every child deserves access to a high-quality education, and every educator deserves the respect and support needed to make that possible.
