Candidate for DSEA President: Mary Pieri

Voting will take place January 5th through January 20th.

I am honored to seek the office of President for The Delaware State Education Association. As a proud product of the Christina School District—having attended Cobbs Elementary, Stubbs Intermediate, Gauger Middle, and Glasgow High School—I understand the deep roots and shared values that connect our public schools to our communities. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Delaware and a master’s degree in Elementary Education from Wilmington University, grounding my work in both academic and practical perspectives on education and justice. Over the years, I have served as a kindergarten teacher in urban and suburban schools and as a special education coordinator in K–5 and early childhood programs, gaining firsthand experience with the challenges and triumphs that define our profession. My union leadership has spanned every level—building representative, area director, local Secretary and Treasurer, and at the state level, Resolutions Chair, PAC chair, Finance & Audit Committee chair, and Treasurer. Through these roles, I have worked tirelessly to protect and expand workers’ rights, demand respect for all educators, and advocate for the rights and well-being of every student. I am committed to leaving our profession and our world better than we found them, honoring the proud legacy of those who came before us while safeguarding the future of our association for generations to come.
