The ESP
Person of the Year Award
- given to an Educational Support Staff member - secretary, paraprofessional,
aide, bus driver, custodian, food service worker - who has contributed to their
profession, their local association, the state and/or national association and

Roushey Advocacy Award
This award was instituted by the Executive Board in 1999 to honor the memory
of long-time Association activist Susan Roushey who passed away that spring.
It is to be awarded at the discretion of the Executive Board to an Association
leader for outstanding advocacy on behalf of all DSEA members. Print out the Award criteria and nomination form here. The deadline for nominations is February 1, 2010.
The Legislative Friend of Education Award
- given at the discretion of the DSEA Exec. Board to a local, state or national
elected official who has made major contributions to the advancement of public

Community Partner Award
Businesses and their employees who support public schols and our members
are considered for this award. Print out the Award criteria and nomination form here. The deadline for nominations is February 1, 2010.
The public is invited to attend this year's Human and Civil Rights Awards Banquet, May 4, 2010 at the Dover Sheraton. Check back here to sign-up as we get closer. At this banquet we honor Delawareans whose life work has advanced the cause of human and civil rights in Delaware; and we celebrate students whose writing and art work celebrates the diversity of our society.
The public is invited to submit a nomination portfolio for someone they believe has helped to advance the human and civil rights of Delawareans through their life's work. Past recipients are listed below. Print out the requirements of this award as well as the required nomination form here.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Student Writing Contest 2010
Deadline February 25, 2010.
For students in grades 5-12, this contest honors the top three student
writers in both middle and high school divisions for an essay, poetry,
drama or free verse which deals with the society, religious or cultural
significance of service to the community. Topics might include the contributions
of organizations such as LaRaza, Kiwanis or Lions Clubs, the NAACP, Habitat
for Humanity, as well as community or individual responses to natural
disasters, war, or the plight of people of underdeveloped nations, or
responses to human needs within one's own community.
All entries must include an alphabetical listing of works (internet sites,
books, magazines, etc.) researched as well as any works cited (please
use the MLA or APA style for citations) and, if appropriate, parenthetical
citations within the text of the paper (i.e., title and page number).
This contest is celebrated in conjunction with the Human and Civil Rights
Celebration of Diversity Banquet May 4, 2010 at the
Dover Sheraton.
Three awards are given, with the First Place winner receiving a $100 gift
and plaque.

Student Art/Computer Graphics Contest 2010
For all grades, K-12, this year's "A Celebration of Leadership, Diversity and Harmony" Art Contest and the Multi-Media Computer Graphics Contest recognize student art which celebrates our diverse society.
Entries are to be original works prepared for this contest.
Computer Graphics entries must be submitted as Powerpoint Presentations with no more than ten slides which advance automatically.
Art contes entries may be: drawing, mixed media, painting, textile and fiber, sculpture,
photography, jewelry, metals.
Drawings and photographs should be fixed and matted.
All entries are to have the entry form affixed.
Entries are to be submitted for the following divisions: K-4, 5-8 and
9-12.
The deadline for art and/or computer graphic entries is March 12, 2010.

Fore! Benefit tournament raises $8,600 for Future Teacher Scholarship Mark your calendar for next year's benefit Golf Tournament, June 18, 2010.
This tournament is the only fundraiser for the DSEA Future Teacher Scholarship Fund.
It's a Scramble format. We always have lots of door prizes, as well as dinner and prizes for winning/losing foursomes. Your local might even consider sponsoring a hole, another way we raise money for the Scholarship Fund.
The date is Friday June 18, 2010 at Jonathan's Landing Golf Club
in Magnolia. Get all the information you need here, including the registration form to sign up your foursome. The deadline to register will be June 15.

Since 1986, this award has consisted of an engraved school bell, a certificate and $250, if a DSEA member, to be used by the winner for the educational benefit of students. This year's presentation will be made at the annual Celebration Dinner preceeding the Representative Assembly at Dover Downs the evening of March 20, 2009.
