Horace Mann Companies

In 1945, two teachers in Springfield, Illinois saw a need for quality, affordable auto insurance for their colleagues.  They started their company, calling it the Illinois Education Association Mutual Insurance Company.  The name was later changed to honor the father of the American public education system, Horace Mann.  Today, Horace Mann is the largest, national multiline insurance company, focusing on educators’ financial needs.  They also are direct contributors to teachers, helping provide needed supplies for classrooms and sponsoring recognition programs for educators.

As a DSEA member, you’re eligible for preferred educator rates, a member discount, a multi-line discount (if you have other Horace Mann products) and a school payroll discount (where available) on your auto insurance.
