This schedule is based on the same calendar as last year: 188 work days; 180 student
days; two start-up/closing days; and six professional development days.
Salary supplements
of 2%, 4% and 6% will continue for people already receiving them or who started coursework by May 21, 2007. All new Skills and Knowledge salary supplements are suspended for 2008-2009.
There is a cap that you can earn through salary supplements of
15% of your state salary, except for Nationally Board certified teachers who are
also mentors. Certified lead mentors receive a $1500 salary supplement, and mentors,
$750.
Nationally-board certified teachers receive a 12% supplement for the duration
- ten years - of their national certificate.
A 6% salary stipend is awarded to the following specialists who have received national certification
from their respective professional organizations: school counselors, school nurses,
music therapists, school psychologists, speech pathologists and audiologists.
For 2008-2009, new certification supplements and Skills and Knowledge supplements are suspended. If you were already receiving a certification supplement, it will continue; if you had already begun a Skills and Knowledge cluster by May 21, 2007, you may complete it. Any new coursework, however, will not be eligible for cluster payments in 2008-2009.
The
Budget Bill includes authorization for the Dept. of Education to assembly a Public
Education Compensation Committee to review public education salary schedules. DSEA
has a seat on this committee. This was a priority of DSEA. It's been ten years since
the schedule was examined and changed to build in incentives for masters degree
and experience. DSEA will be looking to making the schedule more competitive with
other professions requiring similar levels of post-graduate achievement.
