Choosing an Educator Preparation Program

Educator Preparation Programs

How do I know if the program I am enrolled in, or am planning on enrolling in, will result in Delaware licensure/certification?

If you are planning to seek first-time Delaware educator licensure/certification, you should enroll in an educator preparation program that meets the following four criteria:

  1. Is offered by a regionally-accredited four-year college or university.
  2. Is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) or the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC).
  3. Is an initial educator (certificate-yielding) program. (Master's degrees, in particular, may not meet this requirement.)
  4. Is in a program area where the State of Delaware offers a comparable certificate (see regulations).
