* In addition, Delaware instructional paras (no matter what kind of school they work at), who have become "Highly Qualified" according to the No Child Left Behind Act (received a bachelors degree, associates degree, completed 60 semester credits, or have passed the
ParaPro Test)
will receive an additional $662 from the state.
As part of the work this past year
of the
Public Education Compensation Committee, their goal for para
salaries was included in this year's Budget Bill:
"It is the goal of the General Assembly to implement by Fiscal Year 2010 the recommendations
of the Public Education Compensation Committee with respect to Instructional and
Service Aides....
(1) to ensure that the Step 0 of
the salary schedule for Instructional Aides is equivalent to the U.S. Dept. of Commerce
poverty income level for a family of four for the year 2010; the Step 0 of the salary
schedule for Service Aides to be quivalent to 85% of the Step 0 for Instructional
Aides;
(2) to reduce the number of steps
on the Instructional Aides and Service Aides salary schedules to ten;
(3) to ensure that the percentage
difference between steps on the Instructional Aides and Service Aides salary schedules
are equal percentage amounts as specified in the recommendation found in the aforementioned
report."
