Invite the Cat in the Hat to your school

Borrow the Cat in the Hat, Thing One and Thing Two suits

The Delaware State Education Association thanks its partners whose generous help makes this contest possible:

Theodor Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss, wrote a classic book called Oh, the Places You’ll Go which is now a common graduation gift. In a few pages, in his imaginative style, Dr. Seuss lets us all know that the proverbial sky is the limit, that we can do amazing things if we put our minds and hearts to the task.

To help promote the birthday anniversary of Dr. Seuss, Read Across America Day, DSEA is sponsoring another student contest, but this one encourages students to produce a video about reading.

The 2010 Read Across America Video Contest for Students is open to all public school students in Delaware in grades K-12.

"Reading is Important" video entry from Pulaski E.S. (Christina)

"Read to Succeed" video entry from Brooksdie E.S. (Christina)

"Maximum Reading" video entry from Redding Middle School (Appoquinimink)

Students are encouraged to develop a video (maximum three minutes in length) about why they and their fellow students should become great readers; to understand the power of the printed word, and the impact it can have on their lives. Reading, for example, is necessary for every subject in school, and enhances every pursuit in life, every job, every profession.

The winners will be announced in a full page advertisement/story in the News Journal, with their pictures, on our about March 2, 2010, Read Across America Day.

Winning videos will also be posted on the DSEA web site, www.dsea.org. on DSEA’s YouTube page, and on www.delawareonline.com. We will also distribute it to all 62 of Delaware’s legislators and officials at Delaware’s Dept. of Education. DSEA will also play the video at its annual meeting and spring conferences.

Deadline: All entries must arrive at the DSEA office in Dover at 136 E. Water St., Dover 19901 (c/o Read Across America Video Contest) by 5pm, Wednesday, February 18, 2010 - extended from original deadline of Friday, February 12, 2010.
