DSEA/NEA Retired Association

DSEA/NEA-Retired Association

Who we are, what we do...

We are retired employees from Delaware's public school system. Most of us are former active DSEA members who have continued our connections with DSEA by joining DSEA-Retired and NEA-Retired.

For information about membership and dues, including life memberships, contact Debbie Weaver by e-mail or by phone at 1-866-734-5834.

Members receive monthly newsletters with information and news about upcoming activities.

Committees meet monthly or as needed at the DSEA office in Dover. We're always looking for more committee members. Would you like to help?
Click here to see a list of our committees. If you'd like to volunteer, contact Debbie Weaver by e-mail or toll-free at 1-866-734-5834. !

We also hold an Annual Meeting, an annual Fellowship Breakfast, and an Annual Picnic.

Our picnic was held September 12 at the Pizzadilli Winery in Camden.

Our next Annual Meeting is set for April 2 at 9:30am at the Dover Downs Conference Center.

And our Fellowship Breakfast will be June 5, 2008, also at the Dover Downs Conference Center.

Our Legislative Goals for 2007-08

Tier I

  • Annual pension increase at least equal to the percentage increase given to current experienced teachers, to become effective on July 1, 2008.
  • A larger pension increase should be given to those who retired in the 1970's and 1980's -- effective July 1, 2008.
  • Support yearly pre-funding for medical benefits for current and future retirees until fully pre-funded.

Tier II

  • Increase the amount going to the Post Retirement Increase Fund from 2.33% of payroll to 2.45% of payroll.
  • Support raising the exemption of pension benefits from $12,500 to $ 35,000 for State Income Tax purposes.
  • Support the removal of the tax on prescription medications.
  • Increase the life insurance benefit for retirees from $7,000 to $8,000.
  • Support the DSEA Legislative Program as developed for the 144th General Assembly.*
  • A retroactive recalculation of pensions based on 2.0 multiplier for current pensioners as was done in the decoupling from Social Security, or 4% for 4 years.
  • Eliminate the earnings ceiling for long-term health care.

*Rational: As part of the DSEA family we participated in the development of and passage of their legislative agenda and thus support their program.

DSEA-Retired...the commitment continues
