DSEA Training Notebook
DSEA offers many training programs.
The specific training programs which are available through DSEA are described below.
Any of these training programs can be scheduled by any local association or group
of members who desire such training by contacting their local
Uniserv Director.

Association Representative (AR)
- Focuses on the skills necessary for AR's to perform their role more effectively
and efficiently.
Association Representative training
for new AR's - reviews the various roles of the AR and offers practical tips
about their role in the development of strong local associations.
Assertive Discipline - learn
an active classroom management process that has helped may members gain better control
of their classrooms.
Assertiveness Training - provides
practical hands-on techniques to help association members and leaders deal with
difficult persons and situations.
Bargaining Behaviors I, II, III,
IV, V - investigates, through simulations and lecture/discussions, those behaviors
which influence the bargaining process.
Building School, Family and Community
Relationships - learn how to develop long-term relations among groups interested
in improving public education.
Change Process - investigates
the regular, rhythmic cycle of change, the predictable behaviors of persons experiencing
major and minor changes in their lives and strategies for adapting to a changing
environment.
Collaborative Bargaining -
get an overview of a bargaining process that is being modeled in some districts
in Delaware and across the nation. THe process focuses on interests rather than
positions in an effort to get the parties to jointly find solutions that will lead
to an agreement.
Collaborative Problem Solving
- Learn some of the basic skills and behaviors necessary for people to work together
in a variety of circumstances.
Conflict Management - Learn
powerful techniques for dealing with conflict in the workplace and in your personal
life.
Delaware Instructional Improvement
Model - Reviews the skills, knowledge and teaching strategies, upon which the
Delaware Performance Appraisal Model is based, to improve classroom instruction.
Delaware Performance Appraisal
System (DPAS) - Contact your UniServ Director and schedule training for your
building or local association - for new teachers especially - in what to know about
how they will be evaluated. Click here for an overview of DPAS
Grievance - This training
offers participants the skills and knowledge necessary to identify, write and process
local grievances based upon alleged violations of their local negotiated agreements.
Leadership Skills - What attitudes
and skills are necessary to be an effective leader? Learn how to better understand
and work with people while developing the essential elements of leadership.
Legislative Candidate Interview
and Recommendation Training - Provides the skills and knowledge necessary for
local associations to interview and recommend candidates for the General Assembly.
Local Legislative Contact Training
- Presents local association leaders with an overview of the legislative process
in Delaware as well as practical hints for the implementation of a local legislative
action program.
Marketing Association Membership
- Learn how to design and implement a membership program with particular emphasis
on a year-yound program and early recruiting.
Member Involvement - Presents
strategies for implementing a successful member involvement program within a local
association including the recruitment, placement, motivation and retention of volunteers.
Member/Voter Contact - Offers
successful strategies for contacting members or voters and motivating them into
action.
Newsletter Editor's Training
- Gives a practical hand-on experience in writing and editing a local association
newsletter.
Referendum Campaigns - Provides
tips and strategies for organizing a successful local school referendum campaigns.
School Board Elections - Shows
local associations how to recruit qualified candidates for local school boards and
how to organize and implement successful campaign strategies to get them elected.
School Finance - Provides
a basic overview of the Delaware school finance system and how to analyze a local
school district budget.
Seven Multiple Intelligences
- Gives participants ideas how they are already engaging and can further each child's
full intellectual potential. (Based upon Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences).
Shared Decision-making - Offers
an introduction to the basics of shared decision-making. Find out what shared decision-making
is, what it is not and how it might work in your school.
Stress Management - Offers
a holistic approach to the identification, management and reduction of stress.
Team Building - Provides local
association groups or schools the opportunity to learn and implement the skills
and knowledge necessary to work together as an effective team.
Training for Trainers - Provides
strategies for training adult learners. (By invitation only).
Vital Link - A series of modules
dealing with leadership skills.
Why Politics - Offers an overview
why the association is involved in political action.
