Support Christina

Join NEA President Reg Weaver on Monday, March 13

On March 13 at 7:00pm at the Joseph M. McVey Elementary School in Newark , NEA President Reg Weaver will be joining the Christina locals to rally at the Christina School Board meeting in support of their members and their great work.

He will forcefully – in the way that only Reg can do – urge the School Board to delay their decision to close two inner-city Wilmington schools and bring together those community and school leaders who have a stake in the city’s future to develop a plan to create robust, high quality city schools. For example, they might consider creating early childhood centers, magnet or pilot schools, professional development schools, or language immersion schools.

He will urge them not to solve their financial problems on the backs of inner-city students; to rather give these students and their families hope and vision; to work with all of us to create city schools that help all students succeed.

Christina members – teachers/specialists, paras, food service workers and secretaries – urge you to join them in solidarity by wearing a red shirt.

See you there! March 13, 7:00pm, McVey Elementary School, 908 Janice Drive, Newark 19713 .  For a map, click here.

DSEA is re-examining its current logo with an eye to updating it to reflect our current Strategic Plan: who we are and the organization we want to be.

A key part of this process is hearing from you. We’ve scheduled times for the Executive Board, Leadership Team, staff, various leadership groups AND, we’d like to invite you to a special focus group presentation and question and answer session.
See the evolution of the DSEA logo, learn what makes a good logo and then discuss with a facilitator your preferences and hopes for a new way to brand DSEA.

DATE: Monday, March 19

TIME: Two sessions, 4:00pm and 5:00pm

PLACE: DSEA Dover office Board Room

YOUR CALLING

Most districts showing interest in Vision 2015
We expect that most of the 19 Delaware School Districts as well as many charter schools will take advantage of an invitation from Vision 2015 to meet for more information about being a Vision 2015 school and/or district in 2008. Vision 2015 is planning to meet with district teams to further clarify what might be involved in becoming part of this network of schools and districts. They have said that they welcome district officials bringing teams of people, including their local union representatives.

We are alerting all of our local leadership teams about being at those critical meetings and being a part of all discussions related to this possible opportunity.

We are developing information and questions relevant to your conversations about Vision 2015, and we will get them to you as soon as we know when your meetings are.

Questions? Concerns? As always, please contact DSEA President Barbara Grogg at Barbara.Grogg@dsea.orgor at 1-866-734-5834.
