WEAR RED next Monday April 4 in solidarity

Oakland, California Musicians perform "Madison" to thank the protesters in Madison, Wisconsin. Here's their YouTube video, a must see.

"It’s about power to the people. That’s where it should be. It’s called justice and democracy."

What can you do to show solidarity? WEAR RED next Monday, April 4, as a show of solidarity with our union brothers and sisters in the many locations where the employee voice is being silenced. And we especially want to show solidarity with our colleagues in Wisconsin, Illinois, Florida, Indiana, Alabama, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

This is a national union moment about solidarity.
Watch for news in your local of other building activities. Some buildings are walking in to school together, for example.

Request: Take pictures of your colleagues wearing red and email them to pamela.nichols@dsea.org so we can share with each other. Thanks!

Why April 4? Anniversary of assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr.

On April 4th, 1968 Dr. Martin Luther King was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee. He was in Memphis on that fateful day to support striking sanitation workers in the city.

Working people are under attack all across America as powerful interests have united to not only have them work for less, but to even take away their right to organize and speak collectively.
On Monday, April 4th, people just like you all across this country, in all public employee unions, are being asked to show a massive demonstration of solidarity by doing what he was doing on April 4th, 1968: acting in solidarity with union workers.
So, we are asking all DSEA members to WEAR RED on that day, as a symbol of the blood Dr. King shed for his commitment to social justice.

Our Coalition of State Workers United reaches agreement

Wear Red and be grateful that we are not in Wisconsin, that in Delaware, the political powers understand the value of a democratic process, solving problems together; that solutions are better when everyone affected has a voice, an equal opportunity to offer their pont of view, bring up issues and challenges, so that they find the best solutions possible.

Coalition of State Workers United reaches agreement on finding $100 million in savings in health care and pension costs: protects benefits and pensions, with small increases in health care costs. Read more....

Next step:
Convincing the Joint Finance Committee members and other legislators to include these agreements in the state budget.

Refinancing e-mail scam sent to some DSEA members as well as NEA members in other states

An individual using the name “Michael Cohen,” and purporting to represent Lowestrefi.org, is e-mailing members falsely claiming to be from the DSEA. He is promoting a program, allegedly for all school staff in Delaware, that offers low mortgage rates.

This individual is not associated with DSEA in any way and is not authorized to use DSEA’s name. DSEA’s sole endorsed mortgage provider for members is NEA Home Financing through Wells Fargo.

If you receive one of these e-mails, please forward it to MemberPrivacyIncidentResponseTeam@nea.org.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
