Diane
Donohue not to seek second term as President
Late last week Diane Donohue told the Executive Board,
local presidents and staff that she has decided not to seek a
second term as DSEA President.
"I'm at a point in
my life where I need to consider all my options. I am
fortunate because I have several intriguing avenues to pursue.
I want to think about these opportunities and decide which
direction I will take. I cannot do that and be president of
DSEA for another three-year term," she told
them.
Donohue added that she is committed to keeping
focused on the work at hand until her term ends on August 31,
2011.

DSEA election nominations now open
As is the case every spring, DSEA members will elect
colleagues to officer, Executive Board and NEA Rep. Assembly
delegate positions.
Nomination
forms are now available. If you would like to run
for one or more positions, please download a nomination form
here or pick one up at either DSEA office. They must be
completed, including getting signatures of DSEA members who
want to see your name on the ballot, by January 5
and returned to the DSEA office in Dover by that
date.
Check
out the DSEA Elections page to see what positions are open
this year and how many member signatures are
required.
DSEA Representative Assembly
gathering March 11-12, 2011 at Dover Downs Conference Center
The Representative Assembly (RA) is
DSEA's annual meeting, composed of elected delegates from
every DSEA local association who gather to conduct the
business of the organization.
Delegate elections are
taking place in your local between now and
early February. If you'd like to represent your
colleagues at the RA, let your local leadership know so that
your name is on the ballot.

DSEA's Read Across America Video Contest
This contest is open to all K-12 public school
students.
The theme is reading: producing a video that
encourages students to become great readers, a video that
shows students how critical reading is to the enjoyment of
life and their future success.
Last year, we had just
four entries, and none from high schools! This year, we’d like
to see 20 more.
Are you a music teacher? Could
some of your students write different lyrics to a melody they
already know and record a performance of their song? Or teach
it to an entire grade and perform it to younger
students? Are you a drama teacher? Would your
students be able to write and act in a short skit, almost like
a public service announcement, about the importance of
reading? Are you an advisor for the Honor Society? or
Student Government? Do your students do community service
projects with elementary students? Could they create a script
and act it out with their elementary students? How
about Gifted and Talented students? Would a video project
about reading fit into your curriculum for
them?
What’s in it for the
Winners? Lots of recognition. A full-page
announcement in the News Journal, including their picture,
videos posted on DSEA’s YouTube page, and on www.delawareonline.com. We
will also make sure we notify all 62 Delaware legislators and
officials at the Dept. of Education. And lastly, winning
videos will be shown at the DSEA Representative Assembly and
spring conferences. And, for elementary school winners, we’ll
arrange a special classroom visit from the Cat in the
Hat. All
the information, including two of last year’s winning entries,
the judging criteria and the application, are
online. If you have any questions,
please contact Pam
Nichols or Susan
Keller by e-mail, or by phone toll-free at
1-866-734-5834.
The deadline for videos is
January 20, 2011. |
