See you at the
State Rally tomorrow, May
6
From Diane Donohue,
president, DSEA: Today, as a coaltion, we met again to finalize
the details of our rally. See below. Please bring
your families, friends, and anyone who is concerned about
state employee salaries being cut so drasstically.
Strength is in numbers. Let's show our strength, with
thousands of us standing united against the unfair and
irresponsible 8% proposed salary
cuts.
People will begin arriving after 3pm;
speeches are at 5pm, including DSEA President Diane Donohue.
Arrive when you can.
Sponsored by the coalition of
state workers that DSEA helped to form, State Workers
United for a Better Delaware
Where do we
park? There will be two charter busses
from Dawson Bus Service to shuttle people from
the parking area of the Blue Hen Corporate Center lot (Rte.
113, just south of the Rte. 13 split, northbound side) to
Legislative Mall. They will run from 3:30pm to 6:30pm.
Feel free to park in the Blue Hen Corporate Center
lot and get a ride over to Legislative
Mall.
What
if it rains? We're holding the rally, rain or shine. Umbrellas
may be in order.
What
else should I bring? Rally signs. Your families. Wear something RED
(for Solidarity Week).
What
about restrooms? You can walk a block to the DSEA headquarters
building on Water St., or use the facilities in the state
buildings surround the Mall area.
- Stop by the
DSEA table for your "NO 8% cuts" button and "Community
Bucks" to use when paying your bills.
- AFSCME
is bringing water; we're bringing snacks.
- AFSCME is also sponsoring a
Voter Registration Table.
We'll be taking
photos of course, and video of any of you that want to share
your stories about what an 8-12% cut would mean to your
family.
"We can find a funding solution for
Delaware that is sustainable, fair and responsible." – Rep.
John Kowalko, Newark
This
morning, at the meeting of the leaders of our
coalition, "State Workers United for a Better Delaware,"
Delaware Rep. John Kowalko revealed to the Coalition and
the media a list of revenue enhancements that he is urging his
colleagues in the General Assembly to consider. "There are
many ways for us to buid a state budget that doesn't hurt our
economy and our state workers even more." He continued, "I
will not vote for a state budget that includes an 8%
cut to state employee salaries. That makes no economic sense
at all."
President Donohue spoke with Reporter
Bill Cook of WHYY-TV following Kowalko's presentation. You can
see her on Channel 12's 5:30 news tonight.
