Acronyms
The United Education Profession includes the National Eduation Association (NEA), the Delaware State Education Association (DSEA), and other state affiliates, along with local associations, both professional and support staff. The letter pi in the symbol is the first letter of the ancient Greek word for education, paideia. The arrow symbolizes education's focus on the future. The triangle represents an Association membership united in purpose at the national, state and local levels.
Education Support Personnel are a growing part of the Association family. ESP members include bus drivers, cafeteria workers, paraprofessionals, aides and office workers. DSEA currently represents ESP members in seventeen of our 19 school districts.

The United Staff Services Delivery Program is a NEA-created program that provides full-time staff services to local Associations. We call these staff people UniServ directors. You can find their names and locations, along with those of other DSEA staff and leaders, by clicking here.
The DSEA Representative Assembly is the policy-making arm of the DSEA. The RA meets once each year and consists of one delegate for every 50 members in each local Association. All locals have at least one delegate.
The national equivalent of the DSEA RA, the NEA Representative Assembly. Over 10,000 delegates from locals across the country set direction for the NEA at the annual convention the first week in July.
American Education Week is observed during the third week of November. The Wednesday of AEW is always National ESP Day.
Collective Bargaining Agreement. The contract between your Association (on your behalf) and your employer (school district or state agency).
The Public Employee Relations Board settles bargaining disputes that are at impasse for state employees with contracts, i.e., school employee, state employees (eg., public health nurses) firefighter and police office units within the state of Delaware. The PERB is part of the Delaware's Department of Administrative Services, tel: 302-577-2959.
Human and Civil Rights is the name of a DSEA Task Force which organizes an annual awards banquet to recognize two pioneers in Delaware, as well as student winners in art and writing contests. This group was formerly known as the Minority Action Committee (MAC).
The Department of Education is the administrative body for Delaware's public school system.
The Professional Standards Board is an advisory body composed of a plurality of teachers which works with the Department of Education and then makes recommendations to the State Board of Education about teacher certification and licensing.
